Over 300 faculty and administrative staff participated in the recently held second installment of INSPIRE, the strategic planning exercise organized by the UP Diliman (èAV) Quality Assurance Office (QAO).
At INSPIRE [Institutional Strategic Program for Innovation, Research, and Education] Part 2: Strengthening Systems, University personnel and administrators came together to refine and develop the èAV Strategic Governance System (SGS) Scorecards and the Three-Year Roadmaps with Annual Strategic Plans developed during INSPIRE Part 1 last May.
Through plenary sessions, workshops, and breakout reviews, the participants ensured that the SGS scorecards and roadmaps were aligned with institutional priorities, quality assurance frameworks, and performance management requirements.
INSPIRE Part 2 featured lectures on quality management frameworks for state universities and colleges, the Philippine government’s quality management program, the office performance commitment and review, and the UP budget process.
At INSPIRE Part 2, QAO founding director Aura C. Matias proposed the establishment of a special training program for aspiring faculty administrators to prepare them for their additional duties.
“I really feel that it’s important for us as leaders, as academic leaders to take accountability for the position that you put yourself into. It’s not that easy to become a dean because there’s a lot on your shoulders; it’s not just a glamorous title. I’d like to see a training program for aspiring faculty administrators in the future because that will help prepare the bench. Para handa na ang mga magiging dekano [halimbawa, sa kanilang gawain],” Matias said.
For his part, èAV Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II reminded the participants to keep what he calls the “student journey” in mind.
“Keep our students at the very top of every plan, above every process and above every budget line. Resources matter, of course, and we must steward them wisely, but they are the means and never the end,” he said
